Why a mobile makerspace?

Milwaukee County's citizens want to learn to use technology, make things with their hands, create, dream, and experiment. For fun, for job advancement, for college and career readiness; to stay connected and build connections. Milwaukee County's public libraries want to offer free programming that allow people to do just that.
To save public libraries from having to invest in equipment and training, and dedicate space to maker technologies, we envision a mobile makerspace to be shared by all Milwaukee County public libraries. To help defeat the Zombies of Inequity that plague our large, urban and diverse county, we seek to further the mission of all public libraries to make resources available at no cost to help people learn, grow and succeed. |

MKE Mixers is a project developed out of ILEAD-USA WI 2015. In 2018, the MKE Mixers program was adopted by the Library Director Advisory Committee of Milwaukee County Federated Library System (MCFLS) to serve the public libraries throughout the Milwaukee region. The MKE Mixers committee is comprised of librarians and library staff members from throughout MCFLS.
